Digestion, in Ayurveda, is a cornerstone of well-being. From the lens of Ayurveda, every disease is believed to arise from inefficient digestion. Agni, the fiery metabolic energy of digestion, allows us to assimilate food while ridding the body of wastes and toxins. Agni transforms dense physical matter into the more subtle forms of energy the body needs to be healthy, generate warmth, and also sustain a balanced mood and clear mind.
In this Yoga Journal article, Tranquil Tummy, Niika Quistgard explains how to balance your agni when you feel your digestion is slow, when you experience constipation or gas. And in this article, I feature a few basic yoga poses to encourage more easeful digestion.

MY FAVORITE SEASONAL ELIXIR
This is a wonderfully bright digestive boosting, mood lifting, treat. Plus the turmeric and ginger offer an immune enhancing kick.
Boil a cup of water with 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric, 1/2 tsp black pepper, a few slices of fresh ginger. Pour into a cup and add the juice of 1/2 a lemon and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Top with a lemon slice. Sip slowly. Enjoy gazing into your tea, it's like having the sun in your cup.
Option to add a dash of cumin or cayenne.
