learning to pause: practices for relaxing into the present moment

Responding

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 23
10:00-11:00 AM ET

“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” This Viktor Frankl quote is almost universally considered the golden ring for any type of “mindfulness” practice, and with good reason. Learning to Pause gives us access to that—a clear roadmap that we can use again and again. And the more we use that roadmap, the more we are widening our window of tolerance. This is happening on a physiological, cellular level. But what do we do with this freedom?

Growth is immeasurable… and their own experience of freedom creates the conditions. We will pull together all the stages and explore how we can pause to land, arrive, relax on purpose—release tension in our bodies and in our minds—we open up to expand our capacity to truly listen to what's going on within us and around us. This allows us a moment to calm ourselves so we don't act habitually and instead choose how we want to reenter the present moment, how we wish to act or behave or respond more intentionally and mindfully.

ABOUT THE SERIES

For many of us, our nervous system has been firing up our stress response so continuously that high alert now feels “normal.”  And for the past several years, this state of stress is more heightened and widespread than I’ve seen in all my 30 years of teaching.

Pausing is the medicine for these times.

Pausing is a conscious relaxation practice. A way of disrupting our habitual reactions, making it possible for us to create new ways of responding to the moment and expanding our behavior options. This is an essential and urgent skill in these uncertain and challenging times.

In this 6-class series, I’ll guide you progressively through LARLAR™, the 6-step method I created to help you practice Pausing, a practice of conscious relaxation and returning to a place of calm. You’ll learn to kindfully meet your tension, create a sense of spaciousness, and open the path for a deeper connection in your body, mind, and heart.

Each class will weave together the latest science on the stress response and relaxation response, as well as simple, short, repeatable mindfulness exercises that help reduce stress and tension and cultivate somatic awareness and deep listening.

Plus, pair each practice with my FREE Friday Deep Listening Meditations at 9:30am ET.
