Meeting Each Moment with Clarity and Wisdom
When people first start practicing with me, they often think I’m a groovy, relaxed kind of girl. Let me just say… I like to think I’m groovy, but I am not inherently relaxed! In fact, I first came to yoga 30 years ago when I was experiencing anxiety and panic attacks that derailed my daily life.
After decades of practice, I’ve actually become an expert re-relaxer
I’ve gotten really good at continually relaxing. And I don’t just do it once, as soon as I wake up or at the start of meditation. I do it all day long—maybe 20 or 2,000 times—during stressful discussions, in moments of self-doubt, or while stuck in traffic.
Over time I honed a simple practice that could be done at anytime to help me return to center—and I started sharing it with my community. The process has helped thousands of students manage anxiety, tension, and pain, improve their relationships, and navigate tough conversations. When times feel like too much, it’s a path back to our center so we can meet each moment with our full attention, clarity, and wisdom.
In this practice, we start to notice where we resist grounding and presence. We become more conscious of these point of resistance. How our jaw is clenching. How our fists ore curled. How our shoulders, after a lifetime, are still climbing to my ears. And we can take just three breaths to help loosen these knots, stay connected to ourselves, and open more curiously and compassionately to others.
This 90-second practice is the heart of my new book. In The Power of the Pause, I offer my six-step technique called LAR-LAR™ as an accessible tool for conscious relaxing and intentional living.
How To Bring the Pause In Your Life
Recently, I sat down to talk about The Power of the Pause with Dr. Diana Hill, host of the Wise Effort Podcast. In this brand new episode, we journey through each step of LAR-LAR, and I share more about how to apply this technique into your life. Our conversation just dropped, and I’ve love for you to listen in!
New Online Series: The Power of the Pause
If you’d like to explore LAR-LAR with me, I’m launching a six-week Power of the Pause Practice Series this Friday, January 23. I’ll offer weekly meditation, somatic movement, and book club-style community conversations to dive deeply how to bring the pause into your life
